Have you heard of the new backyard trend of converting a storage shed into an elegant hideaway? The Wall Street Journal points out the new homeowner trend in the article, “The Man Cave has a New Neighbor, the She Shed.”
Kimberly Grigg, the talented Myrtle Beach interior designer and owner of Knotting Hill Interiors, shared this average storage shed makeover. She calls is “A Wine She Shed.” Ha!
She started with the bare bones and painted the walls, which immediately dresses it up… but that’s where the simplicity ends.
A lot of questions popped up asking her about keeping the fabric fresh & the bugs out – you’d have to temperature control this (especially if you plan on storing wine!) but you could easily create something similar with outdoor fabrics and furnishings.
Let’s sit down and have a glass of wine while we take a visual tour, shall we?
Using the walls as shelves for wine and decorative objects is what makes this tiny space so interesting – and the seating makes this a cozy yet functional spot to enjoy a glass of wine with friends.
Even though it’s small, the furniture is well placed so it doesn’t feel crowded and the attention to detail remains precise: chairs were not left unpillowed, the walls have an even mix of creatively hung artwork + pretty objects, the formal window treatment is dramatically draped, and the wine bottles serve as part of the decor. The mix of patterns and hues of blue make this little space so sophisticated.
The mantel anchors the room. And, of course, no glam shed would be complete without a statement lighting piece like a sparkly crystal chandelier.
Heyyy, zebra rug, I definitely would like to invite you to adorn the floor of my wine shed.
Using zig zag shelves to store bottles of wine is brilliant. It’s functional and pretty!
And let’s talk about that lamp. The china blue pattern and the tall rectangle shape with the round lamp shade sets off the back of the shade perfectly. Also, I never know what to do with candlesticks and now I do. Side by side on a table. I’m relocating my favorite pair to a side table, pronto.
How incredible is this space? And… as much as I’d love to sit down, have a glass of wine, and enjoy the outdoors in a styled, glam shed – it also makes me think of the possibilities of converting a shed into a kid’s playhouse. That would be a design project worth tackling!
