What to wear + what to pour on your next instagram-worthy picnic
The Best Picnic Lunch in the U.S.A.
The best – and I am not exaggerating – the best picnic lunch I’ve ever tasted was from the side-of-the-road Dry Creek General Store in Sonoma Valley. Within walking distance of Dry Creek Vineyard, this spot offers to-die-for sandwiches and sides like beets and edamame quinoa salad that sound like hippie fare but are incredibly delicious.
Pack: You can attempt to duplicate the Dry Creek General Store’s unbeatable picnic selections with your own sandwiches on crusty baguettes with fresh sides. Prosciutto with basil, tomato and mozzarella with a drizzle of olive oil is a fantastic combination. Goat cheese with beets, quinoa with edamame, and a kale cole slaw are all sides worthy of a preppy picnic.
Sparkling wines like Gloria Ferrar Sonoma Brut will match any picnic food. Folie à Deux Chardonnay will pair with a salty and crunchy proscuitto or ham sandwich on a crusty baguette. A Zinfandel (weird choice, I know… but trust me!) will really spark a salty sandwich or side. Try the Dry Creek Vineyard Heritage Zinfandel if you’re in the mood for a good red wine. Even if you can’t sit on the picnic tables at Dry Creek Vineyard, you can have a taste of Sonoma at your picnic.

Picnic Pretty in Gingham
Gingham conjures up two distinctly unstylish connotations: picnic tables and Dorothy Gale’s frock in the Wizard of Oz.
Yet, it’s larger cousin, Buffalo Check, is all the rage on Pinterest and pajamas during the holidays… and now gingham is the off-the-shoulder darling of retailers. Here, some gingham picks staying true to it’s preppy roots: dresses, shirts, and cropped pants.
