Have you always been trendy, or tended to stick to a basic style?
Besides the occasional trendy fashion risk like wedge booties, my style has not changed dramatically since 1992.
I watched Mad Men for the killer window treatments (Trudy’s tulips post-Pete, omg) and insanely gorgeous ladies’ work attire (Peggy in plum). And like the rest of the USA, went ga ga for La La Land when I saw it in the theater.
La La Lands End Closet
La La Land dazzled because Emma Stone’s wardrobe charmed the screen. Classic pieces feel sophisticated without being dated: A-line dresses, pleated skirts, pretty shirt dresses, cropped tailored pants, crisp collared shirts, simple jewelry, and flats. Let’s create a La La inspired closet for women’s business attire from Lands End Canvas.
Tailored A-Line Dresses
Flattering and classic, you can’t go wrong with an a-line dress, and this one from Lands End is a gorgeous fit. The sleeves make it wearable to work without having to add a jacket or sweater in the spring. Plus, this one is great if you have a TV interview – did you know fitted and plain dresses are the most flattering on-camera? – Short Sleeve A-Line Dress from Lands End Canvas on sale for $79.99!
Flattering Pleated Skirts
Those midi-length skirts with a simple top are sophisticated and so easy to wear. – Lands End Canvas Pleated Skirt in black and white
Instant Town & Country: White Collared Shirt
The white collared shirt is a staple, because it transforms a pair of jeans into a sophisticated Town & Country look. This relaxed shirt is perfect for a pair of tailored cropped pants and heels to dress it up. – Lands End Canvas Boyfriend Shirt
The Timeless Shirt Dress
Always a stunning choice. A great shirt dress is sharp enough for a board meeting or presentation and comfortable enough for an uneventful day at the office. – Shirt dress from Lands End Canvas
Don’t these look adorable? Granted, they are on a slender model… but they look fitted but not tight. So cute with that boyfriend shirt! – Lands End Canvas Ankle Pants
Thoughts on Jewelry
I love accessories, and have always loved to shop for jewelry – I even sold Stella & Dot for a minute – but the past year, I’ve had a shift in my thoughts on jewelry. I really think simple jewelry – especially for work – is a classy look. So I wear diamond studs (wedding gift from my husband) and either Charleston rice beads, a gold bracelet, a tiny diamond and sapphire necklace (gift from my husband) or a pearl necklace. Having a few really high quality, pretty pieces narrows down the accessories choices (not to mention budget!) adds a sophisticated touch to an outfit.
What are your go-to basics in your wardrobe, and where do you like to shop for work clothes?
